CBC – Toronto City Councillor Rob Ford has been appointed to the Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum’s board of directors.
Museum spokesman Kelly Masse says that Ford was elected to the board for the first time at a member’s meeting on March 25.
Masse says Ford won’t be on the committee that selects inductees to the Hall of Fame.
Councillors Mark Grimes and Stephen Holyday were also elected to the board during the meeting.
Ford said in an interview on Saturday that he has a lot of experience in the hockey world and wanted to help promote the sport to children.
Ford also said he played hockey when he was younger and that he would do anything he could to support the game throughout Canada.
“When people call me they know they’re getting someone that’s experienced,” he said. “I’ve got season tickets to the Leafs and I’m obsessed with hockey and obviously football but hockey’s my number one sport and I’m going to try to just keep pushing it.”
I don’t know if anybody else was watching Tommy Boy yesterday on Comedy Central but I was so this is perfect timing for this story. But I love this appointment. The guy has Leafs season tickets, loves hockey (and obviously football) and wants to push the game. What does somebody on the hockey HOF board of directors even do anyways? Rob Ford’s gonna show up to work every day with enthusiasm and push the game of hockey on the masses. Plus, nobody will be upset when he get’s really drunk because that’s probably 50% of a hockey HOF board of director’s job. Good for Rob Ford, I’m happy to see he landed on his feet.
ps – I should be on the hockey HOF board of directors. I should also be running a bowl game. These jobs are fake life and guy’s get paid a shit load of money for them. If anybody has an in at a HOF or knows of a bowl game that needs a new president let me know, I got free time.
